Beading Babes ~ Project 4 update

How is everyone doing with their pieces for Project 4?

I have made one pair of Paisley Drop earrings.

I have to admit I struggled with the pattern at the start. The use of the words "picot" really threw me as I have never heard that phrase being used in peyote so it took me a few goes to figure out what they were referring to.

After that little hurdle I didn't have any dramas with the pattern at all and these earrings really do come together quite quickly and nicely too I might add.
I found my second earring was much better than the first...not a big enough difference to unpick the first but I could see that my tension was better.

It's a really lovely pattern and I think I will be making more pairs in the future, if not for the reveal.

~*~
I ordered my beads for the Ruffled Chain Bracelet but unfortunately the beads I received didn't quite exactly match the beads pictured on the supplier's website...therefore didn't match the crystal bicones I ordered...ughhh!

So I am back to the drawing board.
I have two sets of 8mm beads sitting in a shopping cart.

Completely different to my original choice.

My first colour choice was black, red, green and gold.
The beads that arrived were black, gold and an awful shade of purple.

My second choice are orange beads...my third multi coloured!
The new colour choices couldn't be further apart from each other let alone even further away from my original colour choice.

So I guess you could say I am in a bit of a conundrum as to what colourway I am going to go with.

~*~
So....onto the Trellis Necklace.
I don't know if the moon is in a funny spot right now but it seems I am in a bit of a rut with my colour choice for this piece too.

I had a colourway in mind but I also have these colours in mind for another piece so I am trying to decide whether to do two pieces in the same colours or choose new beads for the Trellis Necklace.

This of course would involve me buying more beads...hmmmm....it's a tough decision!

Reflecting back on similar situations in the past buying new beads has always won the battle...but will they win this time?

Don't forget to post your progress on your blogs!

Happy Beading!

How are my Beading Babes going?

I just thought I'd check in with Beading Babes to see how everyone is
progressing with the first project,
Camelot Cross.

I have slowed down a little with mine as I have been working on a few other projects.
I have stitched all 6 squares required so now I just need to assemble the piece.

How is everyone finding the pattern?
I only found one error which was fairly obvious but other than that this is such a quick and easy project. I reckon if you could put aside a whole day to stitch this piece you could easily get it done.

I also think that the squares would also make a nice pair of earrings so I think I might make a few extra squares and treat myself to a pair of sparklies!

The suggested date for the big reveal of our pieces is

Sunday 16 October

But please remember there is no pressure to share your piece on this date...
as the old saying goes...
"better late than never".

Happy beading!

My Creative Space

Here are a cute little pair of earrings I have been working on over the past couple of days.

The cabochons are onyx and I have simply used size 15/0 and size 11/0 seed beads as well as Czech fire polished beads and drops.

I have backed them with some incredibly soft deer leather.

I love the simplicity of these... perfect to wear to work or will look quite stunning for a night out on the town!

I am thinking a ring to match might be in order!

I am impatiently waiting for my cabochons mentioned in my last post to arrive. I already have many ideas in my head as to how I am going to use these and can't wait to get started.

How is your Creative Space looking this week?

Another day older

Well as you know, it was my birthday on 22 May and I am now officially another day older.

Yep...only a day older...not a year older...because let's face it - we have spent 364 days working towards being a year older that really...on our birthday we are only one day older.

Good thinking huh?

I had a very quiet day at home with my hubby and my little man, Spencer.

I received a beautiful pair of channel set diamond earrings from my husband which were a complete surprise. I had given him a long list of things I'd like...not being greedy but purely offering him many options!

They were even simple things like hand cream and a foldaway umbrella to fit in my handbag!
So you can imagine how surprised I was to open my present to find a sparkling pair of diamond earrings!

My little man gave me My Booky Wook by Russel Brand. Probably not the most appropriate book for him to read which is why it's MY book!!

My husband has also kindly offered to pay for the items in my Fire Mountain Gems shopping cart which is an assortment of silversmithing tools such as hammers, mallets, ring mandrel, tripod & mesh, tweezers and a few other bits and pieces.

I am so excited as I've dreamt of trying my hand at silversmithing for some time, as you might recall by some of my previous posts, so the dream may soon become a reality once I get my work area set up!

Thanks so much to everyone for the lovely birthday wishes sent to me on Facebook.

You are all champions!!

Margie and Me - The Colors of Constructivism - #102

It's that time again for the Margie and Me Challenge reveal.

This time around I chose

The Colors of Constructivism - #102

Apologies that I am a day or two late for posting my creation.

Unfortunately the weather here has been quite bad again and each afternoon when I have gone to photograph my piece... well it's been pouring with rain.

So... please excuse my dodgy photo but it was the best I could get!

I focused on the gorgeous blues, greens and teals in the colour palette and created these earrings using Marcia DeCoster's "Medici Drop" pattern.

I thought the Czech teardrops worked quite well with the colour palette.

I was intending to create a piece using the other gorgeous palette but unfortunately it just didn't happen.

Be sure to check out the other Margie and Me creations on Marcie's blog at La Bella Joya.
