Beading Babes ~ Project 6 - July/August 2012

Welcome to Project 6
of
Beading Babes!

This month I have decided to challenge you...which is what this group was aimed at doing!

This Project we have 4 spectacular projects on offer - all to challenge you in techniques you may not have already tackled.

You will note this project I have also included the techniques used in the designs and the project level (i.e. beginner, intermediate etc) to help you when deciding which project/s you might like to tackle.

Just a reminder that you don't have to complete all of the projects listed below. You can do as many or as few as you like... you can even do more than one of the same project...it's up to you!

Also please discuss the projects on our Facebook page or on your blog and feel free to post your progress shots too... the more bead chat the better!

Beading Babes ~ Project 4 update

How is everyone doing with their pieces for Project 4?

I have made one pair of Paisley Drop earrings.

I have to admit I struggled with the pattern at the start. The use of the words "picot" really threw me as I have never heard that phrase being used in peyote so it took me a few goes to figure out what they were referring to.

After that little hurdle I didn't have any dramas with the pattern at all and these earrings really do come together quite quickly and nicely too I might add.
I found my second earring was much better than the first...not a big enough difference to unpick the first but I could see that my tension was better.

It's a really lovely pattern and I think I will be making more pairs in the future, if not for the reveal.

~*~
I ordered my beads for the Ruffled Chain Bracelet but unfortunately the beads I received didn't quite exactly match the beads pictured on the supplier's website...therefore didn't match the crystal bicones I ordered...ughhh!

So I am back to the drawing board.
I have two sets of 8mm beads sitting in a shopping cart.

Completely different to my original choice.

My first colour choice was black, red, green and gold.
The beads that arrived were black, gold and an awful shade of purple.

My second choice are orange beads...my third multi coloured!
The new colour choices couldn't be further apart from each other let alone even further away from my original colour choice.

So I guess you could say I am in a bit of a conundrum as to what colourway I am going to go with.

~*~
So....onto the Trellis Necklace.
I don't know if the moon is in a funny spot right now but it seems I am in a bit of a rut with my colour choice for this piece too.

I had a colourway in mind but I also have these colours in mind for another piece so I am trying to decide whether to do two pieces in the same colours or choose new beads for the Trellis Necklace.

This of course would involve me buying more beads...hmmmm....it's a tough decision!

Reflecting back on similar situations in the past buying new beads has always won the battle...but will they win this time?

Don't forget to post your progress on your blogs!

Happy Beading!

Beading Babes - Project 3 update ...

How is everyone progressing with their Project 3 pieces?

I have come to a sudden standstill with Runway of Pearls and am yet to start Ravishing Rosettes.

I've run into a few "issues" with Runway of Pearls.

Firstly this bracelet shrinks!

I had it sitting at a perfect length but by the time I had embellished the piece with the size 11/0 and 15/0 seed beads it had shrunk enough for the bracelet to be too small.

Add to this frustration the fact that by this stage I had already used up 388 of my 400 2mm beads I had bought so was in a bit of a panic as to how to lengthen the bracelet.

So.... I decided to use some 3mm Czech beads at each end stitching an extra row or two.

Problem solved!

So I thought...

I then realised that I needed more of the 2mm beads when "zipping" the bracelet closed.

So....I've had to order another 100 beads.

That's a total of 500 beads at a cost of $25.00 so far...without adding the cost of the other beads, thread and clasp!

Hmmmmm.....

I haven't started Ravishing Rosettes as I foolishly removed the 6mm pearls from my shopping cart in my Artbeads order.

My order arrived and I was wondering where on earth the pearls were and why they hadn't included them in my order to discover

I DIDN'T ORDER THEM!
Don't ask me why I removed them from my shopping cart (even I can't tell myself why) so I've had to order more...or should I say some!

Very frustrating to say the least!

In the mean time I've started a bead embroidered project inspired by one of my favourite artists,
Mary Engelbreit.

I discovered Mary's artwork way back in 1990 when I visited the US and my lovely friend, Traci, introduced me to her artwork.

This adorable tote is still on my wish list... but $99.00 to ship it to Australia...I don't think so!

I've loved and collected her art ever since!

~*~

So that's it for me for today.

Hopefully my pearls and 2mm Czech beads will arrive today or tomorrow and I can get started on completing a few of these projects!

I hope you are making better progress than me!

Beading Babes ~ Project 3

Sorry I haven't posted in a little while... I've been travelling for the past 8 days so have had very limited internet access...but more details of my trip in another post.

I am sure you have all been waiting for confirmation of the two most popular project choices for
Beading Babes ~ Project 3!

Well... here they are!

Ravishing Rosettes by Smadar Grossman
(Bead and Button - December 2011 - page 38)

Runway of Pearls by Barbara Falkowitz
(Beadwork - December 2011/January 2012 - page 54)

~~*~~

Once again, you don't have to create both pieces but can do so if you wish.

As it's a busy time of the year I think we should allow ourselves a little longer to work on our pieces...therefore the reveal date for
Project 3 will be

12 February 2012
(around 6 weeks)

If you would like this date extended further please let me know.

Happy Beading!

BEADING BABES - PROJECT 2 REVEAL

Welcome to Beading Babes
Project 2

As you will recall we had two projects on offer for Project 2.

~*~

Sleek in Silver by Hatsumi Oshitani
(Beadwork - Oct/Nov 2011- page 40)
and
Earthly Hues by Carole Ohl
(Beadwork - August/September 2010 - page 38)

These two projects proved to be very popular so I can see why some members were keen to make both pieces!

Everyone has done a spectacular job. I always love to see everyone's variations of the pieces - it's amazing how different a piece can look using another colour palette.

I am so appreciative of your support of our wonderful group.
So without furtherado check out what you have all created!

Sleek in Silver
~*~

* Christine of Horse'n'Garden *
Christine managed to make not just one...
...but 3 colourways of Sleek in Silver.
Nice work Christine!

* Therese of Therese's Treasures *

* Amy of Amybeads *

* Kristen of My Bead Journey *

* Maryanne of Zingala's Workshop *

 * Siggi of Zora-Zauber
Not one...

Not two...

But three colourways! Awesome work Siggi!

* Shirley of Beads and Bread *

Look at the beautiful clasp Tanya made using the Tila beads. Very clever!

 And lastly here is what I created

I love everyone's versions of Sleek in Silver.
It's great to see all of the different colourways as well as seeing different beads used to those suggested in the pattern!

Well done to those that managed to make more than one version!

This pattern proved to be a quick and easy  project although it seems a few of us weren't huge fans on the quality of the Tila beads!

Earthly Hues
~*~

* Therese of Therese's Treasures *
Therese even managed to make a bracelet version of Earthly Hues... gorgeous!

* Amy of Amybeads *

* Kristen of My Bead Journey *

Siggi of Zora-Zauber *

* Shirley of Beads and Bread *

 And lastly here is what I created

Earthly Hues was also a fairly quick project and came together quite nicely.
A few of you commented on not being too keen on the size 6/0 seed beads and the fact that they allowed the thread to be quite visible.
Another issue was that the number of beads quoted didn't seem to match those actually needed so many of us had to order more beads to complete the piece.

~*~
Thanks again to everyone that has participated in Project 2.
You all did a marvellous job!
I will be posting the choices for Project 3 in the next few days.

Don't panic...as it's a busy time of year I will be allowing a few extra weeks for us to work on our pieces.

Having two projects also proved very popular with a lot of us making both pieces so I think I will choose two patterns again for Project 3... but please don't feel you have to make both.

If you have any projects you would like to tackle be sure to let me know.
I have already received one suggestion but would love your feedback on any others you would like included!
