How do you store your seed beads?

I've been thinking of getting one of these bead tube towers ever since I saw them advertised in one of the beading magazines ages ago.

It seems like a pretty neat way to store your seed beads but I have to wonder if it will be one of those things I ''just had to have'' and then don't end up using... like my bead spinner!

At the moment I have my beads stored in their tubes hanging in a jewellery organiser kind of like this one.

I currently have 3 of these organisers in use having

*one for cubes, hex beads and drops
* one for size 15 and size 6/8 seed beads
and
*the third for size 11 seed beads

This system works pretty well as I have them hanging on my built in wardrobe doors so the beads are easy to see (I am only  using one side of the organiser) and as they are sorted in sizes I can easily see what colours I have in each size.

After seeing a few people's bead set up I bought myself a set of these drawers and was planning on sorting my beads into colour rather than by size and colour.

I have to admit that I haven't transfered my beads into this trolley yet. The thought of mixing all my bead sizes together kind of frightens me.

I like being able to find my beads by size AND colour.

If I know I am only going to use size 11's in a particular piece then I can just look at all of my 11's sitting together in each of their colour ranges.

Soooo I guess what I am trying to figure out is what is the best way to sort my seed beads?

By size only?

OR

By colour only ... mixing all seed bead sizes and types together?

How do you store your seed beads? Have you bought a bead tube tower and if so do you like it?

I'd love to hear how you store your seed beads and if that way works well for you.

Karyn, you're so organised! I like your idea of being able to see all of the sizes and colours. It sounds like your jewellery organisers work really well for you. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! ;-) LOL

I have all of my seed beads (all colours and sizes) thrown into a clear plastic box sitting on a shelf. That's as far as my organisation goes! LOL So whenever I need beads, I have to go ferreting through the whole box. Not very efficient, I know! We're moving to Melbourne in just under five weeks, so perhaps when we're settled in I'll work on a better solution.

Ahhh see Belinda your comment ''I have to go ferreting through the whole box'' is what I fear.

Even though the beads will be sorted in colour I will still have to ''feret'' through to find the size I need.

Hmmmm will be interesting to see what others say.

bought a beed tube tower when I went to ship wreck beads two weekends ago.........I should have bought three or four, one for 11's, 8's, and 6's, and maybe 15's its a little bit difficult to get the tubes in the tower, but it does work, and I can organize by size and color, I also have about four carts for storing other types of beads, and findings, and six of the cabnets used for nuts and bolts....now I am in the process of moving from Oregon to Washington, so will have to reorganize and set up a new beading room......I had just got my little cabnets all labeled and organized, now have to bag up all the beads so they don't spill in transit, too much fun

Well...behind me are three small drawer units with all (well, most of...) my delicas. The Delicas are arranged by color. Then below that is another small drawer unit that has one drawer of bugles, one drawer of cubes and large (8/0) Delicas and miscellaneous other large seed beads., and in the final drawer is all magatama beads. Then I have this great book case that I found at a tag sale that has 9 shelves that are about 6 inches high and 6 inches deep...on that case I have three shelves dedicated to clear plastic boxes of various size beads that are similar in color that came from a bead-of-the-month club...then I have a huge ziplock bag that contains about 30 tubes of 11/0 seed beads, and another large bag that contains several containers of 15/0 beads. Oh...and then I have another large plastic box that has only black, gray and silver beads! LOL. Not very organized, although I feel like I know where everything is! But I am leaning towards someday just sorting by color!

Don't they look good Karyn! I have had my eye on these for a while now too, I'm yet to come across a system that works & all my seed beads are in a box, I hate that I can't just see at a glance what I have. I know I would definitely use this, as my current storage solution is so bad.
