My Creative Space...

Over the past week or so I have been working on the first of my Beading Babes projects for 2012,
Runway of Pearls by Barbara Falkowitz.

Sadly I am still waiting on my bead order to arrive which contains my wee little pearls I need to continue on with this piece so this is far as I have got.

I have used 2mm Jet Czech fire polished beads instead of the triangle beads and have used matte silver grey size 11/0 beads and black size 15/0 beads.

I think I will make my reversible so I will be stitching the other side in black and silver.

I did originally use all black beads but it was just a bit too bland, even with the sparkle of the Czech beads.

It has worked out a bit of a pricey piece as I had to order 400 Czech beads costing me $20.00 but the sparkle is worth it!

This is a pendant I finished last week.

It is based on Marcie Abney's Looking Glass pendant.

I ended up adding a few extra rows which resulted in a frilled edge which I quite like!

These pendants are so quick and easy to stitch up and really do make nice gifts!

What's making an appearance in your creative space this week?

My Creative Space...It's a Sparkly Wheels invasion!

This week I feel like I have been going around in circles.

Why? Because I have been making so many of Melinda Barta's "Sparkly Wheels"...
...get it... wheels... round... round in circles [insert crazy, spinning head here].

I first made these for the last Margie and Me Challenge below.

and well what can I say... these little suckers are
SO DAMN ADDICTIVE!

This time around I have decided to include my love of cabochons and am adding a gorgeous tigers eye cab as the centre piece.I have already stitched around the cab with some beautiful tigers eye fire polished beads and again I am using 3mm fire polished beads and size 15/0 seed beads.

I am absolutely l♥ving thes tigers eye fire polished beads as well as the Picasso mix fire polished beads.

I cannot wait to get this piece finished. I have been wearing my other bracelet to work this week and have been astounded by all the lovely comments I have received.

A few people have even hinted they'd like to own one!

Hmmmm me thinks I am going to need to order some more fire polished beads!

My Creative Space

I am excited to announce that my creative space this week includes more than just beads.
My creativity included timber, sponge cake and butter cream icing and Lego!

Here are some shots of what I have been creating in the past week.

Our timber deck

Ahhhh if only it would stop raining.
Amazingly it will be a glorious day and as soon as we get the tools out * BAM * a down pour of rain.

We had a huge storm hit on Monday afternoon. Check out the view from my front door! The water nearly made its way to our front door, you can just see the edge of our front door mat!

But as you can see we are making slow progress. Alan has just put the last joist in so this weekend we will be able to start laying the decking boards... assuming it doesn't rain!

Spencer's birthday cake

As you know my precious little man, Spencer, celebrated his 5th birthday on 2 October.

He originally wanted a cake which was Batman's face, then he decided he wanted a skeleton cake and then (after much convincincing from me) settled for this. It was very simple but tasty nonetheless!

Apparently Spencer doesn't like cream and jam in his cakes... even though the icing, cream and jam were all he ate leaving the sponge!!

I bought the rubber skeleton to sit on the side to compensate for not making him a skeleton cake and he was absolutely terrified of it eventually asking me to put it in the bin saying he found it ''too creepy''!
It's a good thing I didn't end up making a skeleton cake!

Building Lego

Spencer got a total of 8 Lego kits for his birthday including 3 new Harry Potter sets (I think I was more excited about these than he was) and one Sponge Bob Square Pants set
...so needless to say we have been spending the past few days putting together the kits.

He received a Creator 3-in-1 pack which was a house and it took me nearly 2 hours to build!

Isn't Hagrid cool!!!

Artbeads Fall project

Here is my piece I am creating as part of the Artbeads Blogging Program.

So far I have created nearly half of a necklace using St Petersburg stitch. I have to say this is one of my favourite stitches. I love the soft and delicate feel it creates.

What have your creative little fingers been up to this week?

My Creative Space

The past few days I have been teaching myself Herringbone or Ndebele stitch as it is also known. This is a stitch I have wanted to learn for many years now but have always been fearful of.

I used a variety of instructions but really could not figure this stitch out until I found this great video tutorial at Beads East and then it all made sense. If you haven't tried Herringbone and would like to or have trouble picking up this stitch I highly recommend taking a look at this tutorial.

So here is the piece I have been working on.

A gorgeous lampwork cabochon that I stitched up a while ago and two pieces of herringbone. I started the longer piece first and then decided that the ''stripes'' didn't really go with the cab so I created a little bead soup and have now started stitching with the mix.

Which do you think looks the nicest?

This morning as I was taking my pieces outside to photograph I dropped the cabochon...eek!

Thankfully the glass cab didn't break but one of the delica beads in the top bezel row did which has now caused a bit of a problem with that row of beads ...as you may be able to see (the exposed thread on the bottom left hand corner of the cab) in the photo above.

I am now going to have to remove the entire row and restitch it which may be difficult as I have already backed the piece with ultrasuede.

I suppose I could always add another layer of suede once I have added the row?

My Creative Space

Well I am a few days late this week but here is my Creative Space for this week.

I am currently working on my Artbeads Design Partner piece which is reminiscent of Spring.

So far I have successfully made 6 peyote beads and plan on making a few round beaded beads. I am debating whether to string them together with some simple strands of seed beads or get a little adventurous and try my hand at Herringbone.

My Creative Space

I was recently made aware of a really cool blog ...thanks Belinda.

Kootoyoo is a fantastic blog where every Thursday people from all around the world post a picture of their "creative space" to show a current project they are working on.

I have always enjoyed taking a sneak peak into other crafters spaces and especially being privy to a preview of their work.

So here is a sneak peak of what I am working on.... it's my Use the Muse piece. I know I recently posted a sneak peak of this piece but as the piece is due on 12 April this is the only piece I am currently working on.

I have to admit it is providing me with many hours of me ranting and raving and throwing beads around the room frustration over this Easter long weekend. I only have another 9 days to get this piece completed and am starting to panic just a wee bit!
