Beading Babes - Project 5 ~ May/June 2012

This month I am so excited to announce that we will be featuring the designs of the lovely

Helena Tang-Lim
of
Manek Beads

I've always been a fan of Helena's work and have had some of her tutorials on my wish list for a while now.
When I received my digital copy of the latest Bead and Button Magazine I instantly fell in love with her Echoes of Nefertiti necklace.

I sent her a quick message on Facebook congratulating her on her design being featured and mentioned that I would be selecting the piece as one of our projects for Project 5.

In turn we started chatting about the group and she kindly offered Beading Babes a special deal on another of her patterns.

Here are the details:
  • Purchase Helena's Four Leaf Clover Cuff pattern at the full price of US $12.00 via her online store.
  • On the reveal date please share your pictures of your completed pieces (or if you didn't get to finish the piece show that you have made a start).
  • Then simply email Helena a link to your blog or Facebook page to receive 50% of the value of the tutorial back.
Please be sure to include BEADING BABES in the email subject to make life a little easier for Helena!

Please note if you purchase the tutorial but cannot show that you have completed or at least attempted to complete the design then you will not receive the 50% refund.

EASY!

In your blog or Facebook post please include at least one picture of your piece, acknowledge Helena Tang-Lim as the designer and kindly provide a link to her store.

Spring Fling Kit Challenge

I am hoping it is still 20 April in the US as today is the day for the
Spring Fling Kit Challenge
reveal!

This challenge is hosted by the lovely Amy at Amybeads.

Here is the adorable kit I was basing my piece from.

I am ashamed to admit that I didn't get to finish my piece.

I think I was being a little optimistic ordering the kit thinking it would arrive from the US in time for me to have it finished by today's date.

As you can see I did make a start...so that counts for something right!

So far I have used the peanut/farfalle beads and the fire polished beads around the adorable bird focal.

I have then used one of the faux pearls as a focal in my component.

The plan is to have the bird as a pendant and then necklace will be consist of the beaded components like the one above as well as a rope using the delica beads and other fire polished beads.

I also bought the blue kit, which I haven't even started to use.

Don't worry... I am giving myself a big slap on the wrist for being so naughty and not getting these pieces done but I promise that they will be done and I will share them with you!

In the mean time be sure to pop on over to the following ladies' blogs who also took part in this challenge.

7000 Bracelets of Hope ~ Blog hop

Well today is the day for the blog hop where we all reveal our beautiful blue bracelets!

The rules of the blog hope were that each participant had to make an adult sized bracelet in denim blue.

The bracelets will then be sent to The Global Genes Project, a group who raises funds for children suffering from rare diseases. The Global Genes Project will then send the bracelet to one of then 7000 families having children with rare diseases to show them love and support.

So without furtherado here is my bracelet.

The components of the bracelet were created using Melinda Barta's wonderful Sparkly Wheels pattern using Czech 3mm fire polished beads and size 15/0 seed beads as well as 4mm fire polished beads and some blue glass pearls.

I seriously cannot get enough of these sparkly wheels...
...they are so quick and easy not to mention oh so versatile!

Be sure to check out Lori's blog at Pretty Things to see the list of all the other participants in the blog hop. Unfortunately I could not get the links to work...
Also please be sure to check out The Global Genes Project site.

My Creative Space... and a sneek preview!

I've been beading up a bit of a storm over the past week as I am frantically trying to complete a piece I am entering in the Bead Maven's Ice Queen challenge.

As previously mentioned it will be a collar style necklace and is my first collar piece I have ever created so that in itself will be a challenge.

The piece is stitched with transparent and silver galvanised seed beads with a few Czech glass and Swarovski beads thrown in here and there as well as some freshwater pearls for good measure!

I have to admit I normally steer clear of transparent beads so they too have proved to be a challenge!

Here is a sneak peek of the front

and the back

I am making steady progress and feel relatively confident I will meet the 28 November deadline.

Watch this space!
