My Creative Space...

Someone recently told me that it is roughly 9 weeks to Christmas so I thought I'd better pull my finger out of the proverbial and get started on making some presents.

This is  my latest piece.

A Buddha cuff by Beadsbyvezsuzsi which I am making for
"someone". I can't say who it's for incase the sticky beak is looking!!

I have to admit I love peyote.
I haven't done a cuff in such a long time and now wonder why. Peyote is such a relaxing stitch, one of those stitches that you can nearly do with your eyes closed.

The main beads in the piece are actually matte black and galvanised gold which looks a little peachy in my photo above.

Here is what the finished piece will look like...

Beading Babes - Project 2

Thanks everyone for commenting on the designs I chose as options for Project 2.

As previously discussed it was decided to choose two projects this time around.

From reading everyone's comments it seems the favoured choices are:

Sleek in Silver by Hatsumi Oshitani

(Beadwork - Oct/Nov 2011- page 40)

Earthly Hues by Carole Ohl
(Beadwork - August/September 2010 - page 38)

We will have approximately 5 weeks to complete the piece,
therefore the reveal date will be

Sunday 4 December.

Once again please don't stress if you don't get your piece finished by this date...this is purely a guideline.

If you get the urge to make both pieces please do so, but there is no pressure to create both.

As always I'd love to see your progress along the way so please feel free to post pictures on your blog or add links to your blog via my Facebook page.

Be sure to check out the photo album I have created on my Releases by Rufydoof FB page which is dedicated to Beading Babes where I have posted pictures of everyone's work.

Also please let me know if you would like any of the other projects to be included as options for future projects.

And lastly, don't forget to get your Beading Babes badge for your blog!

Let's get started!!!

A pendant...not Wheely earrings

I bought this tutorial, Wheel Earrings, recently from Ellad2

I had every intention to make both earrings... until I started stitching!

This is one very time consuming pattern consisting of Right Angle Weave (RAW) with a little peyote at the end. The earring is solid but is built up with beads not a ring inside.

I think this one "earring" took me close to 3 hours to make so definitely not a quick piece.

I had to laugh, as at the end of the pattern Ella writes,

"maybe after all  what you have done till now, you will wish to wear only one"....

I wish I had've read that line first!!!

I decided I didn't really want to spend another 3 hours making another earring, and in addition to the time, I found this was a little too chunky for my liking.

So a pendant it has become and I LOVE it!

I already had this RAW necklace I had made a few years ago which I think compliments it perfectly.

I've attached a large enough ring so the pendant is interchangeable.

The pattern is relatively easy to follow with only one or two areas that had me a little confused but common sense prevailed and I continued on.

I really do love this design. I think the pendant would make a nice gift for someone and because it only uses size 15/0, 11/0 and 8/0 seed beads you will nearly always have beads on hand to make this as a last minute gift...well allow a few hours not a minute!!

I might just be tempted to make another one in a different colour!

Please choose 2 pieces for Beading Babes - Project 2

At the moment the most popular choice for Project 2 for Beading Babes is
Sleek in Silver.

This is a beautiful necklace however over the last few days I have been filling my shopping cart with the materials required for this piece and have discovered that it's going to be quite costly to make if you don't already have the materials listed.

I myself am having trouble finding the briolettes - the only ones I can find close to that size are Swarovski crystal which will cost me $31.00 for the 9 required... add to that the cost of the seed beads and Tila beads and this piece is going to cost around $50.00 to make.

The idea of Beading Babes was not only for us to learn and meet new friends but also to choose pieces that are within our budget and/or pieces that we don't have to buy too many new materials, therefore enabling everyone to take part.

So with that in mind I have decided to offer two choices for Project 2.

I am happy to keep Sleek in Silver as one of the choices as this has proven to be very popular but if you could possibly let me know what other project you would like to do from those previously listed it would be greatly appreciated.

At the moment Earthly Hues seems to be popular.

I think from here on I will stick to just one project being chosen as a few people have mentioned they really enjoyed seeing everyone's interpretation of the one piece.

Also I have a few designers have kindly offered to donate their patterns they normally sell to us for free so there may be a few projects where there is just one piece to choose from.

I will allow a few days for everyone to decide and then we can select the two most popular.

Please note if you feel the urge to create both of the pieces chosen then please feel free, but there is no pressure to do so!

Happy beading!

Paika Earrings...

This is a beautiful tutorial, Paika, available from Centperles

I fell in love with these earrings as soon as I saw them and just had to have the pattern.

This time an English version was available, unlike my Baronne Bracelet I made recently, which made life a whole lot easier!

The earrings are stitched using peyote and herringbone and are really quick and easy to make.

You only need size 11/0 delica beads and 3mm crystals and of course some earring hooks.

The pattern actually suggests adding a crystal drop to the bottom but I quite like it without.

I can't wait to make these in other colours.

I am thinking red, silver and turquoise could look quite striking.

Happy beading.

BEADING BABES BADGE - stick it on ya blog!

Therese of Therese's Treasures suggested that I create a badge for Beading Babes which we can display on our blogs.

I thought this was a pretty cool idea so I have been playing around with images and fonts and am now  proud to share two badges that you can add to your blog.

The images are jpeg files and you can simply add them to your blog as a picture/image.

If you could kindly provide a link to my original post outlining the details the group which is HERE I would greatly appreciate it.
This way if any visitors to your blog are interested in joining our group they can follow the link to the details.

Alternatively if you do not want to include the link please let them know what our group is about and how much fun we are having so far!

If you have any problems saving the images please let me know and I can email you the images.
